At our customer's site, an IMH Machinery deck machine is in operation, a machine that nails pallet top decks. The manufacturer states an output of 25 boards per minute, and board feeding is handled by one operator. Below is a brief overview: what kind of machine it is, how it works, and what benefits it offers the plant. At the end, there is a video of the machine in operation.

What kind of machine is it?

The deck machine is one of the machines in the IMH Machinery line, a Swedish manufacturer of pallet machines. It nails the pallet top deck, meaning the top deck boards together with the stringer boards. The top deck boards and stringer boards are held in separate magazines and are fed independently, so each can be adjusted separately. Two top deck board magazines allow for working with two types of boards at once, for example, with different widths.

How does it work?

  1. A board drops from the magazine onto the feeder and moves under the press.
  2. The press positions the board, and the nailers drive in the nails. The nails are bent across the grain, making the top deck stronger.
  3. The finished top deck passes under the brushes and exits the machine, pushed out by the next one.

Each IMH machine has its own controller and operator panel, which allows the deck machine to be later connected with other line modules, for example, an assembly machine or a stacker.

What does the plant gain?

  • Output for the entire line: 25 boards per minute is approximately 5 EUR pallet top decks per minute, because an EUR top deck has 5 top deck boards.
  • Low staffing: board feeding is handled by one operator, and the machine does the rest.
  • Bulk nails: they are poured into a cassette, without collated nails.
  • Repeatable top deck: the machine positions the boards, and the bent nails hold more securely.
  • Flexibility: two types of boards at once and formats up to 3 metres.

Check if the deck machine suits your plant

Step 1: Free initial consultation. We discuss your production: how many pallets you make, what types, and how many people work on top decks.
Step 2: Technical visit. If the project makes sense, we visit your plant, inspect the hall, and together calculate whether the investment will pay off.
