Case study: In December 2025, we commissioned at our client's site in Poland the country's first Palletmax series automatic machine equipped with 6 nailers. This is the most extensive nailing head configuration we have installed in this machine series to date.

The client was looking for a machine that could handle both short and variable production runs - without the need for hours of retooling with every change in pallet type. Six nailers instead of the standard number of heads is the answer to this problem: more fastening points simultaneously means the ability to handle a wider range of pallet designs on one machine.

The challenge

Hundreds of different pallet types - from standard to unusual and specialised designs - present an organisational, not just technical, problem for most automatic pallet making machines. Every change in dimension or nailing pattern means retooling, and with short runs, retooling time can consume most of the profit from automation. The client needed a machine that could handle this variability without a large crew for every job change.

The solution: Palletmax with 6 nailers

The installed machine is a Stakma Palletmax series automatic machine in a six-nailing-machine configuration. Key elements of the solution:

Parameter Value
Number of nailers6
Formatting systemEasily replaceable jigs
Program memoryVirtually unlimited
ManufacturerStakma (Palletmax series)
Commissioning dateDecember 2025

The system of easily interchangeable jigs combined with extensive program memory allows the machine to be quickly switched between saved configurations instead of manually setting parameters from scratch with every job change.

Implementation process

After completing the assembly, our team carried out the full range of start-up activities:

What the implementation included

  • Assembly and positioning of the machine at the client's facility
  • Adjustments and calibration of all six nailers
  • Machine operation tests under load
  • Operator training on operation, maintenance, and utilising the automatic machine's capabilities

Results

According to MDP Serwis data, the new Palletmax version used in this installation increases output by almost 30% compared to the previous machine version. The customer gained an automatic machine which - thanks to the quick jig change system and extended program memory - is designed to operate stably from the first day of production, without long downtimes for retooling.
